Hello there!

My name is Aimi, and I am currently a Minnesota-based Asian American artist. My pronouns are she/her/hers! I graduated from St. Olaf college with a B.A. in both Studio Art and Asian Studies, and I currently am a resident Fifth Year Emerging Artist at St. Olaf.

So, a little bit about my work! I love working mostly with 2-D mediums, especially ones that allow for bold and vibrant colors, like acrylic paint or ink. However, I am always open to trying new things, as I am a firm believer in not sticking in one category. Other methods I work or have worked in are digital, wood sculpture, ceramics, intaglio prints, lithography, mixed sculptural media, and new media.

You may notice that my work often features Asian style influences or motifs, as a result of living in mixture of East Asian and Asian American culture. I am extremely passionate about centering Asian women in my creations, and especially giving them a space of dignity, power, and personality. This became even more important than before with the rise in COVID racism and violence, which are one of the many examples of long-rooted anti-Asian sentiment in America still being alive and well today. However, I also like to work whenever inspiration strikes! Not all of my art has a larger meaning, but I always put a part of my personality and a lot of energy into what I create.

Aside from art, my other interests include trying new foods, listening and dancing to music, gardening, animals, experiencing new places, and connecting with friends.

Happy browsing, and feel free to stay as long as you'd like!

- Aimi
